Feather Down

Well, they laid down together
‘Neath the goose feather down
They were birds of a feather
In that downy old town
Circling round each other
For so many years
Foraging the courage to
Fend off their fears
On a flight of fancy
It was fate they found
Finding one another
As they hit the ground
Nesting close together
As the night wore on
Cooing and a wooing
As they sang their song…
And as the night wore on
They sang their song,
They sang their song…
But when the day had come,
The song was done.
They flew in different directions
Out to parts unknown
To sever the connection to
That place called home
Spreading out their wings
And trying hard to fly
Spiraling much higher
Up into the sky
Started soaring faster
Straight into the sun
Felt it getting hotter
So they turned around
Wanting to be happy
With the dreams they’d won
Wanting to be happy
With the lives they found
But, as the years wore on
The want was none,
The want was none
And as the years wore on,
Their dreams were gone.
Returning to the tiny town
From whence they came
They could hear each other
Calling out their names
A lusting and a longing
Clearly in their sights
Yearnin’ for the burnin’
Of that wanton night -
Hoping they could replicate
The warmth they’d found
So, they laid down together
Neath the goose feather down
Birds of a feather
In that dusty old town…..
Birds of a feather
In that dusty old town…..
And as the night wore on
They sang their song,
They sang their song,
And when the day had come,
The song was done.
And as the night wore on
They sang their song,
They sang their song
And when the day had come,
The song was done, the song was done.
